1. This is the One-year Education given to children aged 5 prior to their entering primary school.

The objectives of I-year Pre-Primary education shall be to:

1. Effect a smooth transition from the home to the school;
   1. prepare the child for the primary level of education;
   1. provide adequate care, supervision and security for the children while their parents are at work;
   1. inculcate social, rmral norms and values;
   1. inculcate in the child the spirit of enquiry and creativity through the exploration of nature, the environment, art, music and the use of toys, etc;
   1. develop a sense of co-operation and team-spirit;
   1. stimulate in the child good habits, including good health habi&,• and
   1. teach the rudiment of numbers; letters, colours, shapes, forms, etc, through play.
2. In pursuance of these objectives, Govemment shall:
   1. Set and rmnitor standard for Pre-Primary Education;
   1. develop and disseminate curriculum materials: Policy, National Minimum Standards, Curriculum, Implementation Guidelines and other materials that will enhance the implernentation of Pre-

Primary education;

• fund the One-year Pre-Primary education;
  • make conscious effor& on capacity building development of personnel at this level of education;
  • embark on sensitization of communities and the Nation in general on the I-year Pre-Primary education; and  ensure that relevant Ministries, Department and Agencies, as well as the Development Partners synergize for proper implementation of the one-year Pre-Primary Education due to multi-sectoral nature.

For effective teaching and learning at the Pre-Primary level, the teacher pupil ratio shall be 1:25.
